The 2010 World Cup was big news for anyone who likes sports or beer or both. In Los Angeles, fans of Spain, the Netherlands, and beer (or 2 out of 3) gathered at The Village Idiot on Melrose to watch the action unfold. Of course, there was another big story unfolding at the time, the Russian Spy fiasco involving Anna Chapman, Robert Rachardzo, and a host of other alleged espionage-ologists, who were hoping to revitalize the GRU (Russia’s largest spy agency) and bring back the good old days of the KGB. On the day of that final match, the World Cup game and the spy game intersected.

What has this to do with BEARPAW? Other than the fact that Anna would look great in a pair of our white Shako or Boetis boots??

Well, our friend Simon Rawley-Wells, who had just crossed the pond and landed in LA for a visit, was at the Idiot for the game and came face to face with a guy known only as Szvaddie, who may be the one spy who’s eluded authorities while his comrades are being deported in droves. Water-boarding is definitely torture, and its effectiveness as an interrogation tactic is suspect; based on this video, we say just get a spy a little toasted, have Simon interview him, and you’ll find out everything you need to know!

We liked this unexpected interview so much that it became Episode 3 of BEARPAW TV!
