You know that first day of summer when the sun is burning so hot that you realize you can stop bringing a sweater in your handbag? It’s like the world suddenly lightens up, and people walk around with happy expressions on their faces that say, “summer is here!” The feeling is amazing. The only thing that could make it better is if you actually had known that this was going to be the day that summer decided to make its entrance. Then you could’ve prepared yourself with makeup that wouldn’t start melting on your face and causing your skin to become the subject for some major damage control.

Happy birthday, Taurus, you stubborn ass! Actually, you’re a bull, not an ass, and we love you for it. You’re a bull in a china shop, my friend. A patient, loving and reliable bull, but a bull nonetheless. Sure you can be inflexible and maybe a bit self-indulgent at times, but you know what you want, and no one can tell you differently.

We know how that is … we’re bears for G-d’s sake …

Here at BEARPAW Style, we’d like to offer you our take on Taurus and lend a little guidance in the areas of Life, Work, Love and Style.

Life – You believe that nothing will ever stand in your way again, just like the Wilco song. We salute you, but please watch out for that wall just ahead. It may impede your plans just a bit. Or as we like to say, don’t let the wall stop you, climb over that brick and get on with it!

When I was younger, I assumed that since heterosexual men got dressed solely to attract heterosexual women, the inverse must be true.  It would later dawn on me that most heterosexual women get dressed to try and upstage other heterosexual women.  I really feel like women are hurting themselves in this regard.  Ladies could really save a lot of time, money and sprained ankles if they would stop competing with one another like Ultimate Fashion Fighters and realize that if they’re paying us men even the slightest bit of attention; we think they look like a Vogue Cover.  Yes, really.

As BEARPAW related style questions have started to roll in at the office, it became clear that an expert needed to be called in. I don’t know if it’s in my European blood (more specifically, Swedish), but I was happy to answer all your style and fashion questions!

I want to add more edge to my look, so I bought the BEARPAW Chloe boots. Can you give me some ideas on how to wear them? ~ From Suzanne in Los Angeles

The BEARPAW Chloe boots are my all time favorites- and they will definitely bring some edge to your outfit. In my opinion, they go with just about anything. Wear them with jeans (tie-dye’s are hot this season), a t-shirt and a leather jacket for a harder look, or with your favorite summer dress to spice things up. Personally I like to mismatch different styles- don’t hesitate to wear something like a cute blouse, or a silky skirt with your boots.

I see people tight-rolling their pants again. Is this just a California thing, or are people everywhere reviving the “Beverly Hills, 90210″ look? ~ From John in San Diego

It’s definitely not a Californian thing- come to Stockholm during the summer and you’ll see guys getting their Southern Europe groove on everywhere you look. With the right shoes I kind of love the style (think Jude Law in The Talented Mr. Ripley). It gives your look a certain European I-don’t-care (but you do)- vibe, and look great with a nice pair of loafers or with your BEARPAW McKinley’s.

I’m not a high-heels type of girl, but I still like to dress up once in a while. Can you give me some advice on how to wear flat shoes and still look dressed up?  ~ From Marie in New Port

Good for you for not suffering through the agony of high heels! There are plenty of ways to look dressed up in flat shoes- it all depends on your own personal style! I love wearing a maxi dress with a pair of casual boots (think BEARPAW Eva), a short lace dress with my Chloe’s, or ballerina flats with a cute skirt. To dress things up even further – Add some statement accessories like an oversized ring, some colorful bracelets, or a chunky necklace.

Can I wear jean shorts and BEARPAW’s in the dead of summer? I feel like it looks a little bit awkward since BEARPAW’s are normally worn in cold weather. ~ From Leah in Phoenix

I wear my BEARPAW’s year-round- I like the unexpected twist of wearing heavy boots with jean shorts or a skirt, and they’re just too comfortable to put on the shelf. The BEARPAW Kelci boots are one of my favorites this spring. They look amazing with a short summer dress. Also, if you look for something lighter for those super hot days- check out the BEARPAW flip-flops! These comfortable slip-ons will never cause you the blisters, and of course they come with the PAWs.

With that, I’m going to call it a weekend. Keep sending me your style questions, and I promise to try to make your life a little bit easier too!

    xoxo, Maja

Our final day of the BEARPAW shoot we got a very late start. Since this was our last day, and flights needed to be caught later in the evening, our call time was 7 AM. I think whoever chose that early in the morning was also a masochist, but that is pure conjecture.

Sublime was in town the night before which of course means a lot of debauchery…. for everyone else, classic music performed by a classic band was all the excitement that we were looking for. Unfortunately, some people can’t handle theirs, and one of our models found that out first hand. An unprovoked punch to the face and a black eye later, caused for a little bit of anxiety on our final morning in Tahoe. During our morning meeting not only did we have to do “damage control” to a model’s face, but our photographer was sick in bed with the Flu. Not to worry, the resilience of BEARPAW & Sportie LA Media couldn’t be stopped no matter what curve balls were thrown our way. We had an amazing make-up artist who worked her magic, and there was no sign of a black eye or hurt pride to be found. Phew!! In typical BEARPAW style we had plenty of talent waiting for the opportunity if situations came about like this. Oh yeah, and we found not one, but two fill-in photographers! They were an awesome married couple that worked beautifully together. Double phew!! Read More | Comments

After spending a full day with the BEARPAW and Sportie LA Media crews, there was no question that a bond had formed among us. We had quickly become one big, happy (don’t forget comfortable) family. Isack, Randy, and Mike exuded this amazing energy that made all of us want to give our best and work hard for the shot. For me, that was incomparable. Read More | Comments

    BEARPAW X SLAM Tahoe 2012: Part I

Famous for its clarity, deep blue color, and being surrounded by the gorgeous Sierra Mountains, Lake Tahoe is without a doubt one of the most beautifully serene locations in the world. It was an obvious choice for the BEARPAW Footwear 2012 Fall/Winter Collection photo shoot, which in my opinion is one of the best BEARPAW collections yet. Filled with brilliant colors, textures, and styles the 2012 Fall/Winter collection definitely captures BEARPAW’s dedication to “Live Life Comfortably”. This year marked the second annual BEARPAW Footwear and Sportie LA Media photo campaign collaboration. Although this was just my first introduction to the BEARPAW family, the interaction between Sportie LA owner, Isack Fadlon, and BEARPAW VP of Marketing, Randy McKinley, was infectious and got everyone amped to knockout an amazing photoshoot. BEARPAW Boots 2Well, even though the groundhog saw his face and we have nine more days of winter (or whatever), we’re inching toward spring and you know what that means – time to shoot the BEARPAW Spring 2012 line! We knew we had to find the perfect spot to capture BEARPAW’s open, homegrown spring style of sandals, moccasins, flip-flops, slippers, boots, and clogs, and when we visited Lake Skinner in Temecula, CA, we knew we had found it.
