The 2010 World Cup was big news for anyone who likes sports or beer or both. In Los Angeles, fans of Spain, the Netherlands, and beer (or 2 out of 3) gathered at The Village Idiot on Melrose to watch the action unfold. Of course, there was another big story unfolding at the time, the Russian Spy fiasco involving Anna Chapman, Robert Rachardzo, and a host of other alleged espionage-ologists, who were hoping to revitalize the GRU (Russia’s largest spy agency) and bring back the good old days of the KGB. On the day of that final match, the World Cup game and the spy game intersected.
